The United Organizations brings different groups together for this purpose. The goal is to network different groups together so that they can find common ground, and so that they might co-sponsor different events, activities, and more. Sometime by the end of the semester, you might see their first event. Follow this link to join the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/unitedorganizations/
Here’s a list of all the organizations involved:
001- Entrepreneurial Society
002- Residential Student Association
003- Visual Arts Council of Majors
005- Accounting Club
006- Debate Club
007- Enigma Artist’s Society
008- Women’s Club Soccer
009- Student Alumni Organization
Nine organizations have formally joined, but many other groups have expressed interest. They meet every Wednesday in Commons Room 332 from 1-2pm. Feel free to stop by if you want to provide your insight! The group consists of very open minded organizations, and would love to hear your thoughts.
Ever interested in innovating or solving problems? You might be interested in Entrepreneurship! But, if you don’t know where to start, then it might be difficult for you to begin your project. Here are two great places to go…
1. Entrepreneurial Society
The Entrepreneurial Society is a student organization on campus. This group of innovators and business owners meets every Wednesday from 12-1pm. The location is Academic IV, Room 011. To get involved, join their Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/187910981234892/
Also, there is a speaker series that is run by the Alex Brown Center. These speakers are seasoned Professionals, and are happy to share their entrepreneurial knowledge with eager students ready to start their project!
Secret Spots aren’t actually unknown. They are simply sports on campus that are less known. I’ll keep this series running for a while. If you know of any areas I might not know about, then feel free to inform me. Otherwise, enjoy and try to track this spots down so that you can see them in person. Why do you think some of these locations aren’t as known?
Personally, I think UMBC has a great deal of qualities that are awesome! I chose UMBC because I liked the Graphic Design Program here. While I’m still a Graphic Design Major, I found out that the other programs are just as fantastic.
When I decided to declare a German Minor, I found that the department not only prepared me for language after college; it also improved my language abilities immensely. My English writing skills improved, and I am fluent in German. My interest in language developed an interest of International Relations. This in turn created a love of Political Science for me. The same trend passed, and I now know a variety of faculty that share my passion in their respective disciplines.
Not only are the opportunities plentiful, but also UMBC can provide the community with aspects that improve their overall quality of life. This applies to students, faculty, any any other members that I might have left out.
Yet, there will always be room to improve. Recognizing this simple fact, I’m looking to network UMBC. I’d like see different groups, that may not normally work together, cooperate. Finding common ground is something that is well worth the effort, so that is just one facet that I am working to change.
In my opinion, this is a wonderful thing. But, before some of you might begin arguing against my opinion, let me explain myself.
First, read this article to get some background about how our Maryland State politicians reacted: WBAL TV New Report
Second, hear is my justification. Personality and experience determines most of the decisions we make as humans. Human nature fills in the rest of the gaps. If this is our given assumption, then we can determine that sexuality is not a choice.
Sexuality determines which gender appeals to a person. This is the definition based on what I understand, and is different from Sexual Preference (what type of person someone is attracted to). Personality, which is responsible for other factors of a person, such as levels of extroversion/introversion, intelligence, etc. could therefore also be responsibility for sexuality. A person can’t really shift who they are on a fundamental personality level.
You are either outgoing or you aren’t, and you can learn to balance your weaknesses as a result. To overstate this point, you can’t change your sexuality.
So to sum this up, if you can’t choose your sexuality, just like you cant choose your personalty, why then would someone be given less of an opportunity because of it? If you think about it that way, it is a very simple answer.
This a trend that I’ve realized. And, I know that it may be coincidental. But, as I understand it, the 4th week of any given semester is always extremely busy, and can often be one of the most stressful. This might be due to some supernatural force, but I think it’s more likely that it is when all of the professors and instructors assign their first major projects and exams.
Of course, I’m not advocating for some sort of odd coordination. And, I would be very upset to see a rebellion of any sort to the current manner in which we have our work assigned to us. As I understand it, this is something that is actually quite predictable, and predictability is a good thing.
Here’s an analogy: You take the same route to work every day. Sure the traffic is bad, but at least you know that it is going to to take you the same amount of time to get to work. Now the next week traffic patterns change, and half the days you are late, and the other half you are early. In order to properly get to work on time, you are going to now be extremely earlier on the days you aren’t late.
In short, this metaphor would show that if this week was not as busy, than you are going to be wasting a great deal more of your time and energy at later dates. So, look at it this way: simply prepare knowing that this is one of the guaranteed busy weeks of the semester.
(I think the other weeks that are busy are the 7th 12th and the last month, either December or May)
I came across this interesting source of information. I’m fascinated in seeing what The Rise will be about. It looks like they have covered a variety of different topics so far, and it seems like whatever group of students is running this is just starting. Not only does it look cool, but it also has a friendly appeal to the aesthetic nature of it.
Personally, I like the idea of having multiple sources of media on campus. I’m really looking forward to what comes about from what, at least initally, appears to be a multi-disciplinary piece.
I’m the President of this group. Our goal is to bring artists together. Here are a few things that we’re working towards this semester:
Gallery Area 405 is an exhibition that we are going to be participating is as a school. We’ve got to have an all-call of UMBC artwork so that we have a strong section compared to the other Universities that are going to be there.
VisCom branding – We want to come up with a new logo. Our current logo is good, but we’re working on something better.
Humans vs. Zombies – This is another group on campus that we’re going to be working with. Hopefully we’ll be able to represent them in the manner they want.
Newsletter – where we’ll include advertising, updates from VisCOM, and art-based news on campus.
Enigma is having their Fashion Show on 2/25 cosponsored with the Black Student Union.
Free Wall – This is something you’ll hear more about as we work with other groups on campus to garner support.
Art Ball – a night to showcase all the art organizations for a fun, and chill night of appreciating the arts on campus.
Ron Paul is connected to the Revolution PAC. He is a Republican House of Representative Member of the 14th District of Texas. Also, he most likely considers himself a Libertarian. This means that he has values that coincide with freedom and liberty of individual members of society. The media will distort this claim to include an extreme viewpoint which negates governance. Strong Libertarians consider themselves in accordance with attempting to return to the values the Founding Fathers had in mind when writing the Constitution.
This video is very philosophical, in a sense. It allows you to easily understand a point-of-view that you sometimes can’t fully understand as an American. I won’t say any more so as not to wreck the surprise.Take a look.
